3 Selling Tips For Small Business

It's no secret about the massive opportunity that exists for local firms logging on. It is no longer enough to have a website and some traffic. People are searching for local companies on multiple properties, they are engaging and reviewing these companies in a few areas. One area particularly that's awfully new to the mix is the fusion of mobile to the local search, you most likely do it every day and don't think too much about it.

Google Maps

This is a big market right now and Google is paying extremely close attention and putting plenty of resources into this area. There's been a large shift in the way Google Places listings are shown on the Google search results, but more importantly there's a big social shift in the way folk are finding local businesses.

The quantity of folk who using their portable gizmo and specifically Google maps to find a local business is rising at a worrying rate. Local enterprises are struggling without it and the ones who are in the 'know ' are reaping the rewards. Eric Schmidt the President of Google has this to say of the mobile landscape :

There are currently about 3.2 bln mobile subscribers in the world, and that number is predicted to grow by at least a billion in the following couple of years. Today, cell-phones are more common than automobiles ( about 800 million registered cars in the world ) and credit cards ( only 1.4 bill of those ). Although it took one hundred years for land-line phones to spread to more than 80% of the states in the world, their wireless descendants did it in sixteen. And less teens are wearing watches now because they use their telephones to tell the time instead. So it's safe to say the cell-phone could be the most fertile consumer product ever invented. - Eric Schmidt.

The iPhone, Blackberry, Android all permit straightforward looking on the spot to find local companies thru Google Maps ( displaying Google Places listings ). Gurus predict 80-90% of folk will depend on mobile maps in the subsequent 24 months. It is starting to become a Mobile Local Fusion.

QR Codes

Ever heard of a QR code? Ever seen a QR code? If you have not you'll start to see them in more and more places. You'll appear them on standard advertising media ( sides of buses, ads in bars, eateries, business cards, boarding passes, flyers, leaflets, for example. ). Soon almost every business and person will have one or more of these codes.

Google has created roughly 49 million+ Places lists for local companies. Almost nine out of ten of these go unclaimed. Meaning they don't seem to be optimised nor have any information filled in besides the address ( which may be wrong ) and the business name. The Places listing lets you go far beyond that info, providing detailed hours of operation, photos, videos, services offered, coupons, reviews, citations, and much more.

Just like a regular Google search result these get ranked in Google when folks do local searches ( searches that include a locality identifier like "toronto" or someone uses the mobile maps application on Android, iPhone or Blackberrys ). Regularly people go to google maps even on their desktop to find local businesses and it will highly the top ones.

This does not need high costs to develop new web sites or redesign existing websites. These are hosted by Google so these local enterprises do not even need an existing website, nor one in the future! They can get on the front page of Google with an optimised Google Places listing during the most vital searches, the local ones!

It's time to start to think beyond the website and the browser when helping local companies, and reach out to their clients using mobile services. The percentage of their customers who will find a local service with their phone is rising and rising FAST!
