why don't people just use ultra light set-ups for bass and peacock fishing, isn't it more fun?

isn't it funner than using a medium heavy 7' rod? should everybody have an ultra lite set-ups for situations where the fish arent biting larger tackle?

Ultra light bass fishing is very fun but this kind of ultra-light fishing it is not for everyone. Having a hard fighting fish thrashing around and darting in random directions on the other end of a very thin line could easily raise blood pressures. In extreme cases, it could even promote heart attacks. Besides, ultra-light gears aren't designed for bass fishing in the first place and there are many limitations.

If you use ultra-light setup, your lure selection will be rather limited. You will not be able to use any heavy lures. If you cast anything too heavy, there's a pretty good chance that your line will snap during the cast. For lures that you're able to cast, lures on the heavy side won't feel right. The feeling will be quite similar to dragging a 2oz to 4oz sinker across the bottom with a medium action freshwater rod. You have to give up quite a few of your regular lures. You can not fish areas with heavy structure/vegetation too. In certain areas, you can not fish with ultra-light gears at all during warmer months due to heavy vegetation. Thin lines are not as abrasion resistant as thicker lines. Also, using ultra-light gears in waters that contain other species of very sizable fish, which will also hit bass lures, is not recommended.

Due to the small diameter lines used, your lure's sink rate will increase. You'll need to adjust your technique a little to accommodate the change. Your reel selection will become quite critical as some have already mentioned. Any hiccup on your reel's drag could cost you a fish. Any minor mistakes you made when you adjust your drag will cost you. Your line's condition will also become critical. Let's not talk about obvious flaws such as damages from abrasion or line oxidation. A little too much line twist in the line alone will weaken your line enough to make a noticeable difference. Your knot selection will become limited too. Any knots that will pinch onto the line could cut your line when enough force was applied; this particular quality is very noticeable when thin lines. Your rod is not as stiff and your line will break much easier. With very light lines, your normal hook setting technique could snap your line when you hooked onto a bass that's close to a pound. Not only that, positively setting the hook on largemouth that's one pound or bigger will become increasingly difficult as the fish's weight increases (hook setting is not a major issue on smallmouth). You simply can not jab your hook into the bass's lip like you normally do. You need to set your hook very differently. When you hooked onto a sizable bass, you really need to pay a lot of attention to your line. A whack from the tail could snap your line. For even bigger bass, there is a good chance that the line will break upon contact with the bass's body; the scales plus the force from the body movement could cut your line.

You need to make quite a few adjustments or changes here and there. Those adjustments and changes will add up and force you to learn a different bass fishing style. If you could live with all those limitations, willing to make changes/adjustments mentioned above, and handle all those extra excitements, then bass fishing with ultra-lights will be VERY fun. Do not expect everyone else would welcome this many changes.
