Can I mix different color transfer case fluids?
My Transfer Case is low on fluid, the manual calls for Dexron II, but the fluid in there isn't RED, so I'm assuming it's not Dexron. I have some Dexron laying around, so will it hurt any if I mix this with what is in the T-case right now?
My vehicle is a 1993 GMC Sierra 4x4 with a 5.7L V8.
If the fluid in there now is clear or yellow it's probobly gear oil like 80w90 GL5.
Why that is in there in stead of the dexron I don't know.
Here's what I would do, if in fact you're sure it takes Dexron fluid. The transfer case has a drain plug as well as that check plug. I would drain all of the oil fluid out and then fill it completly with the proper fluid.
That way you know that not only is it full, but it's now full with the correct fluid application.
Mixing won't hurt, but if you're already gonna be topping it off, why not just do it 100% right.
