Budget Decorating: Kitchen Decorating
If your kitchen has been lacking something lately or is just totally out-of-date, you can do several things to update the look of your kitchen and still be able to put groceries in the kitchen the same month. Though you may be stuck with your kitchen’s floor plan you can always accentuate the positive and spruce up the kitchen that you have, and unless you have thousands of dollars to completely re-model the kitchen this is something you will have to do.
Add New Cabinet Hardware
Though it sounds very simple, a lot can be accomplished by simply adding new cabinet hardware. Adding new cabinet handles and removing the old ones will help bring style to the kitchen. If you are going for a contemporary look in the kitchen, use silver or brushed nickel handles.
Cabinet pulls have a great price range, varying from $.50 a pull, to $20 a pull. Make sure to set your budget and take into account the hardware pieces that will be needed.
A Fresh Coat of Paint in the Kitchen
The cost of paint isn’t too steep, especially when working will minimal wall areas. Even a kitchen with wallpaper can be instantly changed, though it might take a little extra time.
Your cabinets should be complimented by the colors you use for painting. It can be a good idea to repaint or stain your cabinets if you don’t like their colors. Decide on painting the ceiling, especially if there are yellow grease marks on it.
Freshen Up Your Kitchen: Add Some Green
The simple addition of plants or flowers to the kitchen can really freshen up the room. The use of a single plant on a cabinet or in the corner of the room will be good enough without cluttering the space. Be sure that you don’t waste your money with plants by not taking care of them.
New Light Fixture
Using new light can help to update the look of the room. The price between light fixtures greatly varies but you are likely to find a great one for under $100.
Recessed fluorescent lighting, is definitely something that you would want to change if you have it. A chandelier in the middle of the kitchen or track lighting is something different that can give you the light that you need on the areas of the kitchen like the stove, and this can be really nice to try. Adding new light fixtures can mean adding a new design element to the room along with the new space and light that will be created.
Put Your China on Display
Why not put your hidden china, if you have any, on display and to good use? A glass cabinet door can be a good replacement for a current cabinet door. The china in the cabinet show be arranged in a way that shows it off to grab attention. Lining a wall with china is another option, as long as you remember to keep it fastened so that it doesn’t fall off.
Updating your kitchen doesn’t mean having to spend a lot of money. Adding style to your kitchen can be as easy as using creativity and the resources you have.
